Each month we'll focus on a different segment of party planning and offer you ideas to help make your event run more smoothly. This month's subject is:

Handling Excessive Drinkers at Your Party

This can be a touchy subject, but it needs to be addressed by the event committee. Since we've performed at hundreds of events yearly, we've seen a number of positive ways to approach this issue:

1) Tattoo a taxi's phone number to their brain - During a Christmas party, the president of a large OKC corporation got on the microphone and asked his employees what the taxi's number was. All six hundred guests shouted the number in unison. He said, "I can't hear you," and so they shouted the number even louder. His point was made.

2) Book a suite at a hotel - This allows revelers to "sleep it off" instead of hitting the road after your party.

3) Have a coffee bar - Stop serving alcohol a half hour before the end and have a coffee bar available.

4) Late-night buffet - Guests at Putnam City's 1968 reunion ate eggs and french toast at midnight while we kicked into more laid-back (but still fun) music.

5) Rent a limousine - This could be an expensive (but a safe and fancy) way to get home.

6) Pay for a taxi for the one guest that can't stop drinking - An OKC company has one employee that gets smashed every year at the holiday party. They hire a taxi in advance, waiting for him to stumble out of the banquet room.
